Incoming

Incoming!!

Hey guys, as you may have noticed, I haven't been putting out as many post as I used to , however I want to let you all know what I've planned. the reason for the delays is mainly getting all of the miniatures and terrain painted and ready with all my bigger and bigger projects.

I really enjoy writing up the battle reports so here are a few I hope to post up soon.

Robotech RPG Tactics

The delay is there was a lot of the miniatures to get painted up (Nobody wants to see a battle report with unpainted miniatures) and to make matter more complicated I had to order another set so the points values would be more even. The Zentreadi were a joy to paint and the UEDF were fine just lots of fiddly bits. I now have them finished so hope to complete this battle report next as promised in the last post. Which you can read here

The report will delve into the rules as well as the story more than previous reports.

Ronin

I'll be continuing the Lion, Scorpion clan wars. With the Lion clan delving further into the Scorpion clan lands they will meet tough opposition from the Kumoshima village defenders. increasing the points of the game and the stakes. Will the Lion Clan be victorious or will the Scorpion clan turn the tide?

 Part one is here.

Dreadball

This is an old favourite, but this time with a special guest Referee.

Dreadball Xtreme

Time to throw our Dreadball teams into the Xtreme.
Not actually played this so it will be new for all of us. I only need to paint up the terrain (boxes) and I'm ready

I won't lie I've been wanting to battle report this for the past few years and never really got  round to it, so hoping this year will be different. so we might get a show down between the Romans and the Normans

You can check out both forces below

A quick battle report with the open fire starter set, which pits an Allied armoured force versus German Infantry force.

Also some other games, modelling and painting articles.

Any suggestions let me know

300 - Warmaster ancients

''This is where we hold them! This is where we fight! This is where they die!''- King Leonidas, 300

I had decided that my next Warmaster ancients project would be a quick one.
so straight away i decided i was going to get a Spartan force, well maybe not a full force but enough to recreate the battle of battle of thermopylae.

I wanted to make it more in theme of the film 300 than real historical.

Looking at the army list for the Greek,The force consists of:

General - King Leonidas
1 unit of Spartan bodyguards
1 unit of hoplites (these will act as a supporting unit)

coming to a total points value of 285 (just short of 300 points)

All in all this small force has 17 attacks even if it doesn't charge( 20 if it does) and +3 to combat resolution

King Leonidas

''Give them nothing! But take from them everything!''

Front rank

Supporting rank
The 300

The 300 defend the Hot gates.

The Miniatures are 6mm and i picked them up from the Baccus stand at the 2012 claymore gaming event.

Warmaster Ancients- Normans

Warmaster Ancients- Normans

In the space of two centuries the duchy of Normandy stood as a prime mover in European affairs, not only completing the conquest of England but also stretching its arms out to southern Italy and Sicily. Even after the duchy lost its autonomy and was absorbed into the Kingdom of France-proper it still exerted great power and influence within that realm.
This is my second Warmaster ancients army, my first being Imperial Romans
For my next force i really wanted a cavalry heavy force and with the Normans i got it..
I really liked the 6mm Baccus range for giving an epic feel to the game.
So now on to my painted miniatures
General Kenzie de Montfort
Norman Infantry
foot soldiers would be protected by the use of the shield as used by the cavalry

Norman Leader, Godfrey de Ibelin leading a unit of Retainers

Norman Knights
were an integral part of Norman and general French strategy.

More Knights

Archers
wore no armour. Their function was to soften up the enemy before engagement by killing as many opponents as possible beforehand.

General leading the knights

Knights and Infantry

Retainers and mounted skirmishers
Norman mounted skirmishers.

Norman force in full - 1000pts

Bushido -The Prefecture of Ryu

Bushido -The Prefecture of Ryu

"Bushido is a game of savage battles, of cunning stratagems and last-ditch defences, and where debts of honour are paid in blood. In Bushido, the fate of the world hangs not on armies but on individual heroes, men and women of extraordinary capacity, attuned to the all-permeating life force known as Ki. This force is the very fabric of the universe, and those with the appropriate training or natural talent can tap into this energy source and gain seemingly superhuman powers. In the world of Bushido, the delicate tapestry of Ki – and thus the universe itself –is threatened by the forces of imbalance, and it is up to you to protect it – or help rip it apart. In a game of Bushido, nothing less than the universe itself is at stake. Are you ready for the challenge of the Way of the Warrior?"

Bushido is an oriental fantasy tabletop miniature battle game for two players. Each player commands a force of no more than a handful of individuals, represented by 32mm metal miniatures. These forces meet on the battlefield and the commanders (the players, that is) try to outwit, outfight and outlive the opposing force and fulfil their battle objectives while denying the enemy theirs. If you have played tabletop miniature games before, Bushido falls into the ‘skirmish game’ category: all miniatures represent individuals and your force consists of a small group of unique characters rather than a big faceless army. A game of Bushido is fast-moving, flexible and filled with strategizing, counter-strategizing and counter-counter-strategizing. Your tactical acumen is important, but as dice add an element of randomness, so too is your ability to think on your feet.

you can download a free copy of the quick start rules here

"The Dragon Clan won the rights to colonize the Westward Isles in a series of duels with their rivals, the Shiho Clan. However, when the Emperors vessel expired, and his young heir too young and inexperienced to concern himself with the pretty disputes at the fringes of his lands, the promise of sole settlement rights died with him. The newly formed Prefecture of Ryu found themselves yet again in conflict with their old enemies, the Shiho Clan. Now, the Prefecture’s grasp of power is weakened, due to the recent Tsunami. Their forces are in disarray, they are fighting on all fronts in the aftermath of the disaster. But still the men and women of the Dragon are ready to take their place at Destiny’s table, uniting the human world by defending it against all threats."

Starter set i got was The Prefecture of Ryu and it contains:
  • Five finely sculpted pewter miniatures:
    • Hiro Takashi, The Dragons claw
    • Hanso, Ashigaru Sergeant
    • Yoshio, Ashigaru
    • Jin, Ashigaru
    • Minuro, Ashigaru arquebuser
  • Five 30mm round bases
  • Five full colour profile cards
  • Thirteen D6 dice (six white, six black and one red)
  • Free quick start rules for the game Bushido

There was even a weapon and head option for Hiro Takashi, The Dragons claw. Flaming sword and head without helmet.

I will be basing my force with temple bases, following this tutorial here
(I attempted this tutorial, but i didn't have the right thickness of balsa wood to hand  or the gauze, The balsa wood i used was a lot thicker, as you can see in the pictures. so nothing wrong with the tutorial, just me)

    Jin -Ashigaru

    Yoshio - Ashigaru

Minuro - Ashigaru with flintlock Arquebus

    Hanso -Ashigaru Gunso

September update

September update

This month has been busy, but unfortunately not on the gaming front.

I've recently moved home, so that has been taking up most of my time.

However i haven't been idle , i do still have a few new and some ongoing projects. (even started playing Magic:the gathering commander)

Now with Skelp gaming event only week away and Skirmish livingston near the end of October.  i still need to paint up an Urban war gaming table, which i will post up a building step by step.

i will also be continuing with my Warhammer 40'000 Orks, and my new warmaster ancients Norman army. Both armies only 1000pts each.

On the topic of Orks i manged to get in a quick test game against a Salamander space marine force, i had forgotten how brutal Orks in close combat are. Once my Orks are finished being painted I'll do a battle report for them and post the game.

Early Imperial Romans - Warmaster Ancients -Part III

Early Imperial Romans - Warmaster Ancients -Part III

This month sees the completion of my early imperial roman warmaster ancients force. a total of 1250pts, you can see the progress here and here.
I even managed to play my first game with them too, but more about that later.
First the army itself.

The Army

General Marcus Titus Aquillus with his veteran legion

Closer shot of General

Heavy cavalry

Aux Archers

Aux Infantry

Legions

Legions and Scorpion bolt throwers

More Legion

Now on to their Debut Battle

My opponent was using a sassanid Persian force (which is mostly cavalry)
My setup was fairly basic with the legion in the centre with aux infantry and cavalry protecting my flanks. the Persians deployed their dreaded Elephants on my right flank and cavalry on the other. After dicing for game length (only a six turn game) first turn went to the Persians.

Highlights for me were:
  • The Persian Cavalry got first into combat, but were unlucky and got repelled by a unit of archers in combat
  • One unit of legion with a Legate backed up by unit of aux infantry took down a unit of elephants, mostly due to poor Persian dice rolling.
  • One unit of archers caused enemy infantry to be confused twice.
  • My block of legion holding strong in the centre after numerous charges and counter charges and at one point flanked.
Now the low points
  • Persian cataphracts shattering my cavalry to bits
  • Poor command rolls, i even managed to fail with a portents re-roll
  • Two units of Skirmishers and my scorpion bolt thrower didn't move or make any contribution to the battle
In the end i managed to pull off a victory, and if i am honest i didn't really expect to win at all. but the end victory points were :
Persians - 350
Romans - 700

Lessons i have learnt
  • Legions are nails and can more than handle themselves in combat against most things
  • Even with a general and two Legates  i still can't guarantee to move move my entire force
  • Shock cavalry are scary
so inspired by cavalry my next purchase will be a Norman army
