Skelp 2011

Skelp 2011

This year is the second year I've attended Skelp, last year Urban war was very successful with just a small circular gaming table, so for this year i would up my game with a larger table and have four strike teams on the table.

The table was built in a week, and you can see how that went here

We arrived just after 9am and the table didn't take long to set up and we where given a table spot on the main stage.  The Angus Wargames Club did a great good getting everything organised.

Here are some other great tables at this years gaming event.

The great escape

The event seemed quieter than last year. but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I know i was kept busy running games, so i never got the chance to pay any other other games on display.

Well that's Skelp 2011 over, next Skirmish Livingston.

Table building for Skelp

For skelp this year i decided i wanted to play bigger games of urban war.
so i started work on creating a 4' x 4' (48"x48") table to play with four starter strike teams on the table.
unfortunately the insulation foam i got  was shorter than i had hoped, leaving me a table that is 40"x47" but its still usable for play.
I began by slicing up insulation foam into equal pieces.

A few corner hills made from leftover bits

Mixing some modeling sand and black poster paint to give a textured effect, i used a roller to apply it to the board sections and the hills.

Once i had them painted black and dried, i gently dusted them with white spray paint ( please make sure this is done outdoors or in a well ventilated area.)

This has given me the nice urban wasteland look i was hoping for.

A corner hill using the same techniques

Once it had all dried i applied patches of "scorched earth" static grass to the hills and the board sections

September update

September update

This month has been busy, but unfortunately not on the gaming front.

I've recently moved home, so that has been taking up most of my time.

However i haven't been idle , i do still have a few new and some ongoing projects. (even started playing Magic:the gathering commander)

Now with Skelp gaming event only week away and Skirmish livingston near the end of October.  i still need to paint up an Urban war gaming table, which i will post up a building step by step.

i will also be continuing with my Warhammer 40'000 Orks, and my new warmaster ancients Norman army. Both armies only 1000pts each.

On the topic of Orks i manged to get in a quick test game against a Salamander space marine force, i had forgotten how brutal Orks in close combat are. Once my Orks are finished being painted I'll do a battle report for them and post the game.
